RICHMOND, IN. – The Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 1108, a nonprofit service organization supporting veterans, is giving back to the community with a donation of $3,200 to the City of Richmond, Parks and Recreation Department.
This generous donation will be used to provide a police officer to be present at every Family Night hosted at the Cordell Municipal Pool. The VFW chose to contribute in this way to provide safety and security for families who attend. Family Nights begin on June 15th and are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7:30 pm to 9:30 pm at the Cordell Municipal Pool. Family Night was started in 2017, providing Richmond families a great way to spend their summer evenings.
“Kids need to be out enjoying life,” said Rob Napier, VFW Post 1108 Quartermaster and Adjutant, “This is a way for us to reinvest in the community and the youth.”
Richmond Mayor Dave Snow was present to accept the check and graciously stated, “I’m so thankful for all of the work VFW Post 1108 does for this community. These veterans have already given so much service and continue to serve today. I’m happy to see them giving to the Cordell Municipal Pool. This is where I learned to swim and enjoyed my childhood and I want to see as many kids here be able to do the same.”
Other recent contributions to the Richmond Parks Department from the VFW can be seen in Clear Creek Park, adjacent to the pool. Post 1108 donated brand new basketball rims and nets for the Dream Court and provided funding for a new scoreboard for the softball field. Steve Brassfield, a VFW Post 1108 Trustee said, “Our field needed to be operational. We need to keep our fields appealing to our community for our youth programs and appeal for hosting events that require timed games.” The Parks and Recreation Department thanks VFW Post 1108 for their generous contributions to improve the recreational experience and safety of the community.
