First Beams are Set on US 27 Bridge Replacement in Richmond
Exciting update
The US 27 bridge replacement project has reached a crucial milestone with the delivery and setting of the first beams on the new bridge this week. Over the course of the next few weeks, a total of 63 beams will be set in place to provide support for the deck of the new bridge. This is a significant step forward in the project and brings us one step closer to the completion of the new bridge.
What to Expect
The bridge replacement project commenced in spring 2023 and the work on the superstructure and deck is expected to continue throughout the summer. The roadway tie-ins with US 27 will be completed by the fall, and the bridge is expected to be open to traffic late this year. It is essential to note that the project involves the long-term closure of US 27 from North D Street to North G Street and the closure of Fort Wayne Avenue from North 8th Street to North F Street, which is north of the railroad tracks. However, access to local businesses is being maintained. The closures are expected to remain in place until the bridge reopens to traffic later this year.
