The Richmond Sanitary District received a 2023 American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) Indiana Engineering Excellence Honor Award for the William E. Ross Wastewater Treatment Plant Phase 1 Improvements Project.
The award was given to Richmond Sanitary District and the engineering project team at Donohue & Associates, Inc. for upgrading the wastewater treatment plant. The upgrade addressed a portion of the CSO Long Term Control Plan and general infrastructure upkeep. It restored plant peak capacity while improving both water treatment and energy efficiency. Total Plant energy usage was reduced by 34% and the use of chemicals for phosphorus removal was greatly reduced.
"This project is an example of the commitment Richmond Sanitary District has to provide water services that meet both the highest quality standards and the needs of our customers. We continue to strive for excellence in all aspects of our operations." Pat Smoker, Director of Richmond Sanitary District
"This award is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the Richmond Sanitary District team. The project represents a significant step forward in improving our infrastructure, energy efficiency, and environmental sustainability." Dave Snow, Mayor of Richmond.
This is the third award Richmond Sanitary District has received from ACEC Indiana since 2016. Honor Award recipients are eligible for Indiana's Grand Project Award and the National EEA competition. Most recently, Richmond Sanitary District won an award for the NW 13th St. Interceptor Replacement Project. You can view a video of that project here.
