Since joining the Richmond Police Department in 2006, Captain Smith has been a beacon of commitment and professional development. His 13 years of law enforcement experience, coupled with his various roles, have paved the way for his steady advancement to Captain. His dedication to continuous improvement has not only ensured strong leadership for the agency but also enhanced the quality of service to the Richmond community.
As a leader, Captain Smith has overseen a multitude of crucial assignments, from major crime scene investigations to officer training. His promotion to Captain in 2023 was a testament to his leadership skills. Now, he heads the Patrol Division, ensuring round-the-clock police services for the city. His leadership has significantly improved the quality of service to the Richmond community.
A graduate of Richmond High School and the 129th Basic Session of the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy, Captain Smith has been certified by the Indiana Law Enforcement Training Board for over 20 years as a Primary Instructor and an Emergency Vehicle Operations Instructor. He has also completed the FBI Law Enforcement Executive Development Trilogyprogram. He is passionate about mentoring staff at all levels and is dedicated to helping othersachieve their career aspirations. Outside law enforcement duties, he enjoys motorcycling andhas recently started learning to play the guitar.
