Combined Sewer Overflow
|
 |
| |
A combined sewer is a sewer that transports stormwater, industrial wastewater, and sewage in the same pipe. When heavy rainfall occurs or when snow melts rapidly, combined sewers may overflow directly into the East Fork Whitewater River.
The Richmond Sanitary District advises everyone to avoid all contact with river water downstream of CSO locations for at least 72 hours following rain events, and during periods of rapid snow melt.
The Richmond Sanitary District’s three CSO locations are described below:
CSO 005—East side of Whitewater River just upstream of “G” Street Bridge
CSO 006—East side of Whitewater River just downstream of “G” Street Bridge
CSO 002—East side of Whitewater River ¼ mile downstream of Test Road Bridge.
